Makei to head Belarus’ part at Belarus-UAE joint committee meeting in Minsk

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei will lead the Belarusian part at the first meeting of the joint committee on cooperation between the governments of Belarus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that is due in Minsk on 24 April, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The UAE delegation will be headed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash. The parties will meet to discuss bilateral political and economic cooperation as well as prospects for the legal framework development and cooperation in international organizations. According to the press service, the committee is set to analyze the ways to boost cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, pharmacy, finance and tourism. The sides will also discuss the issues related to attraction of UAE investment in various sectors of the Belarusian economy.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of the UAE parliament, ministries of foreign affairs, economy, finance, justice, culture, the National Council for Tourism and Heritage, the Federation of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, big companies.

The UAE is Belarus’ main trading partner in the Persian Gulf. In 2012 Belarus’ exports to the UAE totaled $20.8 million (121.9% in comparison with 2011), imports reached $17.1 million (202.5%). Belarus posted a trade surplus of $3.7 million. The UAE invested a total of $22.6 million (up 3.6 times on 2011).
