Belarus open to mutual cooperation with EU

KLAIPEDA, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarus is ready and is open to cooperation and dialogue with the European Union based on the principles of mutual respect and benefit, Belarusian Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich stated at the Belarusian-Lithuanian economic forum in Klaipeda on 18 April.

“We believe that during Lithuania’s Presidency in the EU in 2013 we must make use of all the additional opportunities in the Belarus-EU dialogue, make a move forward to the normalization of the Belarusian-European relations. I am confident these steps will be appreciated by history. The policy of sanctions, ultimatums and dictate has absolutely no prospects, it should become a thing of the past,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

“Belarus is ready and is open to cooperation and dialogue with the European Union based on the principles of mutual respect and benefit. We are ready to take an active part, with all our industrial and intellectual capital, in the international integration,” the Premier stressed. He expressed confidence that the Belarusian-Lithuanian dialogue would help materialize promising mutual economic, scientific and cultural cooperation into joint projects. The Government of Belarus creates comfortable conditions for their consideration and implementation, Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed.

Belarus has been consistently promoting the ideas of open platforms and transfer of technology in the EurAsEC, the CIS, and the UN. Belarus forwards initiatives as part of the dialogue with the EU (the Eastern Partnership). "Our country creates no problems to anyone in the world. We have been addressing the issues of balanced development on our own. The essence and the priority of economic policy are interests of people,” underscored Mikhail Myasnikovich. Gini coefficient used as a measure of inequality of income is one of the best in Belarus among the European Union and the CIS countries,” he added.

“The Single Economic Space for Belarus is not an alternative to the EU. By the way, last year Belarus’ exports to Russia and Kazakhstan grew by 12%. We had the same growth in trade with the European Union. For us, the Customs Union and the EU are complementary integration entities,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich

He recalled that the President of Belarus put forward the initiative "integration of integrations" to create a broad platform for economic cooperation from Vladivostok to Lisbon. “This is a real Eurasian project based on freedom of trade, non-discrimination, mutual respect and constructive dialogue between the peoples of our continent,” underscored the Belarusian Premier.
