Lukashenko: The Union State will grow even more efficient for securing people’s wellbeing

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has extended Unity Day greetings to the peoples of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that among many common holidays and memorable dates, the Day of Unity bears special significance.

“It was instituted thanks to the desire of our fraternal nations to join efforts and build their future together. It is deeply symbolic that against the backdrop of efferent trends which abounded in the entire post-Soviet space in 1990s only Belarusians and Russians withstood massive external pressure and managed to lay the foundation of unity in the new historical stage. The two countries have come a long way since then. The experience of the Belarusian-Russian integration was successfully used in such modern large-scale projects as the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. It will be used to reach the next target that we have defined – the Eurasian Union. We will advance to brand-new organization forms and integration levels. However, the historical decision made by our peoples17 years ago will serve as the foundation of these processes forever,” the messages of congratulations runs.

The Belarusian head of state stressed that as of today the Belarusian-Russian trade has already exceeded $43 billion. “We are building a nuclear power plant together, exploring outer space, jointly using our scientific capacities, implementing a wide range of joint projects in various fields, such as the manufacturing industry, agriculture, education and the services sector.
We vigorously interact in foreign and defense policies. Therefore, we are confident of the future in spite of new challenges and instability in the world,” the Belarusian leader said.

“The main thing is that the citizens of the both countries do not feel aliens either in Belarus or in Russia,” the Belarusian head of state emphasized.

Alexander Lukashenko believes that in present-day conditions the objective need for further integration keeps heightening. The results of the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State testified to the readiness to promote this integration project. We will outline its updated priorities, set forth concrete goals and make the Union State even more efficient in the best interests of the two nations.

“I am convinced that only joint committed work will help us fully realize out potentials, ensure competitiveness of the national economies, secure sustainable development of the states and guarantee good living standards of people. I am convinced that cordial aspiration of the two nations for joint dynamic development will be successfully fulfilled in the future,” the President of Belarus stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko wished all people of Belarus and Russia strong health, happiness, peace and wellbeing. “May the solid strategic partnership get stronger between the two countries,” the President noted.
