President: Roman Catholic Church is influential, significant in Belarus

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – The Roman Catholic Church is very important in Belarus. Its influence in the society is large. The statement was made by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he met with Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz on 1 April, BelTA has learned.

“We have to work harder during the festive days, but this kind of work is pleasure,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “I congratulate you and all the clergymen of the Roman Catholic Church on these amazing and bright holidays. I think they will stay forever, they have survived everything”.

The President pointed out that the year 2013 is a special one because the new head of the Roman Catholic Church has been elected recently.

Alexander Lukashenko underlined: “What is going on in the Roman Catholic Church these days is very important because it is widely recognized that the Roman Catholic Church is very significant in Belarus and enjoys massive influence in the society. This is why I am not indifferent to the state of affairs in the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus”.
