Dapkyunas, Wu Hongbo discuss Belarus-UN sustainable development efforts

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Resident Representative of the Republic of Belarus in the UN Andrei Dapkyunas has met with Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Wu Hongbo to discuss cooperation of Belarus and the UN Secretariat in promoting sustainable development, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The talks were held in the United Nations headquarters in New York on 21 January. Andrei Dapkyunas pointed to the role of regional events in implementing agreements reached at the UN Sustainable Development Conference (Rio+20). The Belarusian diplomat noted that being a friend of the UN Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, Belarus will push for a comprehensive energy agenda in the context of sustainable development and expansion of cooperation in research and transfer of “green” technologies.

Wu Hongbo welcomed Belarus’ efforts to address the topical issues of the UN agenda and pointed to the relevance of a broad discussion of sustainable energy and middle-income countries development in the context of the promotion of sustainable development goals by the international community.
