Belarus consistently implements long-term initiatives of CSTO

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – In 2012 Belarus invested a lot of efforts in strengthening the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh has told BelTA.

He emphasized that the mission of the CSTO is to enhance national and collective security of the Participating states and to maintain stability in the zone of its responsibility.

“Belarus was consistently working to materialize long-term objectives voiced at the start of Belarus’ chairmanship in the CSTO in 2011. Thus, the CSTO Secretariat and the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations engaged in practical cooperation in 2012,” Andrei Savinykh said.

The Spokesman said that Belarus took an active part in updating the key instrument of foreign political coordination of the organization – the Collective Guidelines for Permanent Representatives of the CSTO Member States at International Organizations.
