Presidents of Belarus and Indonesia in talks in Jakarta

JAKARTA, 19 March (BelTA) – President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono are holding talks in Jakarta on 19 March, BelTA has learnt.

The heads of state are discussing the most important matters of the bilateral agenda and cooperation prospects in the manufacturing industry, agriculture, science, education, culture, defense and investments. Belarus seeks to deepen cooperation with Southeast Asia. Indonesia is among the key players in the region and might help Belarus promote its interests in this vast region. The two countries have plans to set up manufacturing and agricultural companies in Indonesia. These companies will sell their products both in Indonesia and other countries of the region. On 19 March, during the Belarus-Indonesia business forum members of Belarus’ official delegation have signed a number of contracts and agreements to supply Belarusian machinery to Indonesia and concluded memoranda formalizing the two countries’ intension to expand cooperation.

Before the talks, the Belarusian President was officially greeted by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Merdeka Palace. The Belarusian head of state was saluted with 21 salvos. Accompanied by the commander of the guards of honor, Alexander Lukashenko passed the guards of honor and bowed his head in respect of the state flags. After the official ceremony, the heads of state proceeded to the palace to hold talks.
