Belarusian ambassador, MP to meet with Pope

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Meetings of Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mr Anatoly Rubinov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Holy See Mr Sergei Aleinik with Pope Francis have been scheduled during the visit of the Belarusian delegation, representatives of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation was sent to Vatican on 18 March upon the invitation of the State Secretariat of the Holy See for the sake of taking part in the celebrations timed to the inauguration of Pope Francis.

The delegation is led by Anatoly Rubinov. In addition to Sergei Aleinik the delegation also includes Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Italy Mr Yevgeny Shestakov.

It has been reported earlier that Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Buenos Aires, Argentina was elected new Pope on 13 March. He will be the 266th Pope. The inauguration ceremony will take place on 19 March.
