Belarus attends Afghanistan Security Day in Vienna

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarus attended the so-called Afghanistan Security Day “International Community Engagement with Afghanistan and Central Asian States – Challenges, Synergies, Possible Responses and the OSCE Role” in Vienna on 12 March, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Embassy in Austria.

The event took place at the initiative of Mr Lambert Zannier, Secretary General of the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

On behalf of Belarus the event was attended by representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the State Border Committee, the State Customs Committee and the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the OSCE. One of the keynote speakers at the plenary session dedicated to harmonization of international actions in the field of security in the region was Mr Gennady Nevyglas, Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Prior to the Security Day Mr Gennady Nevyglas met with plenipotentiary representatives of the CSTO member states at the OSCE. The meeting was attended by Belarus Permanent Representative at the OSCE Mr Valery Voronetsky.

Gennady Nevyglas informed the meeting participants about the CSTO approaches and position on the Afghan issue. They discussed current issues relating to the coordination of actions of the CSTO member States in the OSCE.
