Young people expected to contribute to Belarusian economy and science

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - The State expects young people to come up with new ideas and projects that will help raise the Belarusian economy, culture, and science to a higher level of development, and pledges to always support such initiatives, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with gifted students and talented youth, BelTA learned.

The head of state noted that in the State of the Nation Address he clearly defined the strategy towards the knowledge economy, upgrade of production, computerization of all areas of life and promotion of active, creative people to the key positions in the state administration, science.

“In addressing these challenges, we assign the key role to young people. Everything that we are going to do, we will do for the sake of young people, and with their participation,” the President said addressing the meeting participants.

“You will need to direct your talent and intellect into the creation of the new information, nano-, bio-and other high technology so that our country could reach the forefront of innovation development and take its place in the global knowledge economy,” the President noted.

“Your strength, inspiration and irresistible flight of fancy could give a strong impetus to the development of science and culture. You will enrich the Belarusian art with new genres and trends. You will create works imbued with patriotism and glorify our fatherland,” the President said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus has created all the conditions to enable young people to realize themselves. According to him, there are almost 800 gymnasia, lyceums, art schools, tens of thousands of hobby groups, studios, and scientific societies in the country. Science fairs and competitions, festivals, contests discover new talents every year. Young scientists, actors, artists and musicians receive support from special presidential funds. Young leaders with an active civil position make a considerable contribution to the operation of the Belarusian National Youth Union BRSM, which projects are also supported by the state.

According to the President, such attention to young talented people yields results. Last year Belarusian students brought the country over 50 medals at international academic competitions. Young singers and musicians have decently represented the country at prestigious festivals and contests winning nearly 100 diplomas and prizes.

“The television show “I Can Sing” that lights up stars from among disabled children, orphans and young talents from one-parent and large families has already become a big event in the social life of the country. The TV show proves that people, no matter how hard their lives can be sometimes, can achieve success, if they have faith in their dreams,” the President noted.

“Hundreds of roads open up for you. Seek, create, take risks, discover,” Alexander Lukashenko said addressing the talented youth. “Each of you is a unique personality. Pursue your ambitions through hard labor and remember your moral responsibilities. As outstanding physicist Albert Einstein once said, let kindness, beauty and the truth be the ideals lighting your way,” the President said.

Alexander Lukashenko thanked the academic staff for educating such bright students. “Let them make you happy with new achievements. Let their hearts keep gratitude to their teachers who opened the door to the knowledge and excellence for them,” the head of state said.

The President wished everyone a successful ending of the academic year, every success at exams and good summer rest.

Alexander Lukashenko also presented awards to the prize-holders of the special presidential funds and the finalists of the television show “I Can Sing”.
