Belarus views Indonesia as platform to promote trade in Southeast Asia

MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to create a platform in Indonesia to expand trade in Southeast Asia, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Marzouki Ali, Speaker of the People’s Representative Council of the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia, on 6 May, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus views Indonesia as the most promising partner in Southeast Asia.

“We are happy about the prospects of Belarusian-Indonesian cooperation. We will do everything for that if you do not mind. During our recent visit to Indonesia, the Indonesian authorities assured us that we can establish a platform, if I may say so, in Indonesia to promote trade in Southeast Asia,” the President said.

The Belarusian head of state believes that it would be difficult to do it without the support of MPs and closer diplomatic cooperation, particularly, without the opening of the Indonesian Embassy in Belarus. “I am convinced that these issues will be discussed during your visit and that your visit will result in concrete decisions,” the President stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko said that he recalls his visit to Indonesia with pleasure. “I was particularly impressed that in spite of strong external pressure exerted by your foes you have succeeded in development, especially, in the economy,” the Belarusian leader said.

The President thanked Marzouki Ali for coming to Belarus and pointed out the importance of the visit which will help promote the recent agreements with Indonesia.

For his part, the Speaker of the Indonesian parliament expressed confidence that his visit to Belarus will help enhance bilateral relations between the states.
