Number of passengers carried by Belavia up 24.3% in January-April

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – In January-April 2013, the national air company Belavia carried nearly 326,200 passengers, up 24.3% over the same period last year, BelTA learnt from the Belavia press service.

The press service also informed that in January-April 2013 Belavia carried more than 629.8 tonnes of cargo and mail, up 11.9% over the four months of 2012. “These results have been achieved due to an increase in transit passenger numbers, cargo and mail,” the press service said. Experts noted that Belavia intends to pay special attention to the development of transit traffic.

In April the passenger traffic increased by 20.9% as compared to April 2012, amounting to almost 91,300. During the same period, the national air company transported 136,6 tonnes of cargo and mail, down 9.4%. Experts say it is related to a global downturn in cargo transportation by air.

Founded in 1996, the national air carrier Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus. It is based in the national airport Minsk and offers regular flights from Minsk, Gomel, and Grodno to 42 destinations in 24 countries of Europe and Asia. In 1997 Belavia joined the IATA, in 2010 the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA). Belavia’s services meet the highest international safety standards.
