Shapiro appointed Minsk Oblast Governor

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed Semyon Shapiro Minsk Oblast Governor, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

Semyon Shapiro was born in the village of Rechen, Luban District, Minsk Oblast. He is Doctor of Economics, Professor. Semyon Shapiro worked as chief economist of the Komsomolets state farm (Dzerzhinsk District) and head of the Mayak company (Dzerzhinsk District). In 1998-1999 he led the Belarusian Research Institute of Economics and Informatics of the agricultural industry. In 1999-2004 he worked at the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus. In 2004 he took charge of Agrokombinat Dzerzhinsky. In April 2008 he was appointed Agriculture and Food Minister of Belarus. In May 2010 he was appointed Grodno Oblast Governor.
