CIS short-term observers start monitoring presidential election in Azerbaijan

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – The CIS mission of short-term observers has started monitoring the presidential election in Azerbaijan, BelTA learnt from head of the mission’s headquarters Yevgeny Sloboda.

The head of the mission of short-term observers, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev has already arrived in Baku. He is set to have meetings at the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan and Foreign Ministry and to hold talks with OSCE/ODIHR observers.

Yevgeny Sloboda noted that the CIS mission at the Azerbaijani presidential election consists of 276 people representing Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Union State Parliamentary Assembly and CIS Executive Committee.

The presidential election in Azerbaijan is scheduled for 9 October.

On the election day the CIS observers will visit polling stations in all the regions in Azerbaijan, in the cities of Baku, Sumqait, Ganja, Mingachevir and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. They will monitor various stages of elections: from the opening of polling premises to summing up the results by precinct election commissions.

The CIS mission will present its findings in the final document.
