Belarus, Qatar agree to boost bilateral cooperation in trade

DOHA (BelTA) – Belarus and Qatar intend to give new contents to the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The matter was discussed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

The leaders of the two states emphasized a trusting relationship at the interstate and personal levels and praised good relations at the political level. The parties also stressed the need to step up trade and economic cooperation.

The current meeting in Doha is a perfect reason to decide on how and in what direction should the two countries advance their bilateral relations. Investment and trade with a focus on setting up joint companies were named among the key areas of cooperation.

There are good prospects for developing cooperation in the woodworking industry and the supply of food products. Qatar shows a big interest in cooperation with Belarus in these areas.

Alexander Lukashenko suggested instructing the governments of Belarus and Qatar with outlining 3-5 mutually beneficial projects that could help boost the relations. The discussion of these issues will be continued during the future visit of the Emir of Qatar to Belarus.

The heads of state agreed to promote closer trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Qatar.
