MINSK (
BelTA) – Belarus can offer compelling advantages to investors and partners in the data center market, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Roman Golovchenko told the media following his report to the head of state, BelTA has learned.
“We see now how cloud computing and especially artificial intelligence are developing. This requires large volumes of energy. An average data center consumes as much electricity as 50,000 households. That's a small town. Analysts predict that the demand for energy in the world will only increase, specifically for electricity," the head of the National Bank noted.
He noted that data center services are now becoming in demand around the globe, especially for processing information related to AI. “Therefore, given that we have a surplus of electricity in the country, I think we are quite capable of offering favorable conditions for investors and partners, those who are interested in setting up such facilities here. I believe this is a very promising area, and I am confident that the government will certainly pursue this,” Roman Golovchenko stated.
The topic of data centers was among those discussed during the report to the president. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the National Bank has many specialists who are versatile in the banking sector and also in many other areas. Therefore, their potential must be utilized. “They say that we have quite advanced banking specialists. They are ready to create data centers. Or at least to oversee the process,” the head of state said.
