Transparent, secure, always available: MP lists advantages of digital Belarusian ruble

10.03.2026
MINSK ( BelTA) – The advantages of the digital Belarusian ruble include transparency and security of payments, as well as 24/7 access to financial resources, member of the Standing Commission on Budget and Finance of the House of Representatives Aleksei Raiko told reporters ahead of a commission’s meeting to discuss the draft law “On Amendments to Laws Regulating the Digital Belarusian Ruble,” BelTA reports.

“The digital ruble will allow the government to ensure transparency of all payments, guarantee security for citizens, and provide businesses with 24/7 access to their financial resources,” Aleksei Raiko said.

Currently, as the MP explained, organizations and legal entities effectively make payments during banking hours. With the introduction of the digital Belarusian ruble, they will be able to do so at any convenient time.

Speaking about other advantages of introducing a digital Belarusian ruble, Aleksei Raiko noted the expansion of payment methods, including cross-border ones.

“In order to carry out cross-border payments, we understand that our national financial systems must, roughly speaking, become aligned with each other,” the deputy said, referring to the possibility of converting digital payment instruments. “Accordingly, this will help simplify cross-border payments and, among other things, move away from international payment systems to simplify our business transactions.”

According to the deputy, the concept of a digital Belarusian ruble was approved back in 2024. All preparatory work carried out by specialists from the National Bank, as well as other specialists, formed the basis for a demo version of the software for implementing the digital Belarusian ruble.

The deputy noted that today, approximately 130 countries, representing 98 % of the global economy, have already begun developing digital versions of their national currencies. Among the leaders are China, India, and Russia.

The draft law “On Amending Laws Regulating the Digital Belarusian Ruble” is being prepared for its first reading, which is tentatively scheduled for April.

Today, the House of Representatives held its first meeting of the relevant commission, where deputies were able to pose questions to National Bank specialists.
