MINSK ( BelTA) – The digital Belarusian ruble is expected to become available to citizens no earlier than 2028, Aleksei Raiko, a member of the Standing Commission on Budget and Finance of the House of Representatives, told the media while commenting on the bill “On amendments to laws on the digital Belarusian ruble” adopted in the first reading, BelTA has learned.

“The digital Belarusian ruble is planned to be introduced to citizens no earlier than 2028,” Aleksei Raiko said.

At the same time, the National Bank plans to begin pilot industrial operation of the digital Belarusian ruble on 1 July 2026.

According to Aleksei Raiko, members of parliament are already receiving questions from citizens and businesses. “The first question is how the introduction of the digital Belarusian ruble will be reflected in basic accounting within an organization. This is already being worked through,” he said, adding that pilot implementation is planned in several organizations.

Regarding the security of funds, the member of parliament noted that the digital platform will be protected from external risks and threats, taking into account all requirements for cybersecurity, digital security, personal data protection, and more.

The parliamentarian emphasized that businesses will effectively receive a 24/7 instant payment system. Another advantage expected by exporters is reduced dependence on international payment systems in cross-border transactions.

“The digital Belarusian ruble will not affect the circulation of cash or non-cash money in the Republic of Belarus. However, it will not serve as a means of saving. No interest will be accrued on balances in digital accounts. It will also not be used for deposit accumulation or for issuing loans to individuals. Overall, the digital Belarusian ruble is a modern digital currency. Our payment and banking systems must correspond to current global trends,” Aleksei Raiko said.
