MINSK ( BelTA) – Belarusians live in a peaceful and stable country with a strong commitment to maternal and child welfare, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko told journalists following a visit to the National Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology on International Children’s Day, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the purpose of this international holiday, established in Paris in November 1949 by a decree of the Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation to draw attention to the importance of a happy childhood and the challenges faced by children worldwide, the chairman of the House of Representatives emphasized that the day remains deeply relevant. Today, the world is unstable, there are explosions and shelling in some places, and children continue to die.

The speaker added that peaceful Belarus continues to place a high priority on supporting mothers and children.

“Today, Belarusians live in a peaceful, stable, and hardworking country that focuses heavily on maternal and child welfare,” Igor Sergeyenko noted. “A society’s level of development and morality depends on how it treats women, children, and the elderly. In our country, these three categories are very well protected.”

Regarding the improvement of child protection laws, the speaker emphasized that Belarus relies on time-tested norms implemented in daily life. At this stage, any legislative adjustments would only involve fine-tuning.

“All matters concerning the school and university academic process, as well as children’s summer recreation, are managed by local executive authorities in accordance with designated programs,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.

According to the speaker, special emphasis is placed on preserving children’s health. “We visited the center today and witnessed how powerful its scientific base is. It is, essentially, a fusion of science and medical practice. The specialists here work wonders in restoring children’s health,” he said.

Igor Sergeyenko pointed out that it is through the persistence, knowledge, experience, and dedication of the entire medical staff, combined with psychological support, that children are able to fight their illnesses, recover, and return to their daily lives.

“Examples like this demonstrate the immense attention our state dedicates to children’s health in the broadest sense of the word, as well as to their upbringing and education,” he said, noting that a personalized learning process has been established for the center’s patients. “In essence, we are talking about a comprehensive approach to protecting rights and creating the ideal conditions for a child’s life, studies, and recovery,” the speaker added.

The chairman of the House of Representatives announced that construction of a new wing on the center’s grounds is scheduled for completion in 2026. It will house an operating theater and a laboratory, among other facilities. This expansion will facilitate early detection, more precise diagnoses, and consequently, the timely initiation of treatment.
