MINSK ( BelTA) – The IT sector is the locomotive of Belarus’ creative economy, Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said at the plenary session of the international conference on strengthening cultural ties and developing creative industries “Cultural Interaction: Heritage Preservation and Global Dialogue in the Modern World” in St. Petersburg on 18 June, BelTA has learned.

“Every country has its own driving force of the creative economy. Belarus’ locomotive is the IT sector. For decades, Belarusians have proven that even without a broad resource base or massive mineral reserves, an idea alone is enough to create something from scratch. Creative potential is inexhaustible. And today we see how, over the past 20 years, Belarus, once associated mainly with tractors, trucks, and food products, has gained the image of a leader in the IT sector, a country with advanced logistics, a high level of healthcare, and a destination attracting millions of tourists,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

The High-Tech Park, established by decision of the head of state in 2005, has been recognized as a leading IT cluster in Central and Eastern Europe after two decades. Today, the HTP generates almost 3 % of Belarus’ GDP, offering the best conditions for launching, operating, and developing high-tech businesses.
