Belarus simplifies procedures for disposing of abandoned vehicles

BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 270 on 10 August amending Decree No. 348 of 9 August 2011 “On measures to organize the collection, storage and subsequent disposal of unused vehicles.” The document is designed to address issues related to abandoned vehicles and simplify the work of executive committees and organizations authorized by them in this area, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.
Under the decree, non-operational vehicles now include faulty self-propelled machines (tractors and similar equipment) left outside the house plots and parking areas.
Organizations authorized by executive committees in accordance with established procedures have been granted the right to deal with abandoned vehicles. Along with executive committees, they will be able to obtain information about individuals who previously had a direct connection to the abandoned machinery (including those who insured it, had it undergo technical inspection or paid fines) and who could have been its owners, in order to subsequently send them notices.
The time limit for submitting a court request to recognize a vehicle as abandoned and transfer it to the relevant administrative-territorial unit has been reduced from 30 to 10 days.
