Lukashenko: No global decisions should be made without SCO approval

BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed hope that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take a leading global position as he talked to journalists on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek on 1 September, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state noted that it is necessary to listen closely to what Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his speech at the summit. “He captured the core essence: that without the SCO, no global initiatives can happen in the world. Just like it used to be, remember? Not a single issue was ever resolved without the Soviet Union. That is the kind of place I would like the SCO to take. I want a world where no major global actions can take place without the approval from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” the president said. “That was roughly Xi Jinping’s statement – that the future of the world must be shaped by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We have already approached this point, we talk about it a lot. We have a massive population and colossal resources in Eurasia and across the SCO territory. Yet, our tangible achievements remain few.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko used specific examples to clarify what concrete actions he meant: “Financial and economic sanctions are being imposed against SCO states. And then what? Silence. The USA is trying to stifle China with tariffs – a trade war. It hasn’t ended. And then what? Moreover, an act of aggression has been committed against an SCO member state, Iran. And then what?”
“Decisions should have been made at least on these pressing issues. At the very least, we should have gathered, talked, and condemned it, demonstrating our role. Unfortunately, that did not happen,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
