Lukashenko names key points of growth in cooperation with Mongolia. Results of talks in Minsk
MINSK, 26 October ( BelTA) – The results of the Belarusian-Mongolian top-level negotiations have demonstrated the firm intention of both parties to convert the high level of political mutual understanding between Minsk and Ulaanbaatar into significant economic projects. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement after negotiations with Mongolia President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh in Minsk on 26 October, BelTA has learned.
“The signed agreements, primarily the roadmap on cooperation between Belarus and Mongolia in 2027-2029, will give an impulse to this process,” the head of state said. “My counterpart and I have also analyzed in detail the progress of implementation of the agreements reached in Ulaanbaatar in 2024. In certain spheres, in particular, in food shipments, we have managed to make fairly serious progress. Bilateral economic interaction has reached a growth trajectory, however, its considerable potential has yet to be realized in full.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the interim trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Mongolia, which came into force in July 2026, is an additional powerful instrument the parties will use for this purpose. The agreement has substantially reduced barriers for businesses in both countries. Now it is necessary to help business circles take proper and prompt advantage of it.
The president drew attention to the fact that the Belarusian side had supported its Mongolian friends in preparing this document and considers it a good sign that it was signed in Minsk during Belarus’ presidency over the Eurasian Economic Union. He also mentioned the readiness to continue providing support in matters of further cooperation.
“Today we have sketched out further key growth points in Belarusian-Mongolian cooperation. First of all, it is manufacturing cooperation,” the Belarusian leader said.
Belarus’ readiness to meet Mongolia’s needs for reliable mining vehicles, passenger vehicles, and municipal vehicles was confirmed as well as the readiness to develop service infrastructure.
“Light industry is a new and interesting avenue where we have started jointly making fabrics from linen and cashmere. It will be a unique and eco-friendly product combining the cool of Belarusian nature and the warmth of Mongolian steppes. Not just fabric but a symbol of the living interweaving of the two cultures and of our economies,” the Belarus president noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also sees good prospects for developing cooperation in the sphere of agribusiness: “Belarus is ready to make a weighty contribution to maintaining Mongolia’s food security. Our potential and Mongolia’s scale simply push us toward large projects. We will speed up the construction of commercial dairy complexes and step up the transfer of Belarusian agricultural technologies.”
The head of state is convinced that the signed documents and the agreements reached will bring tangible economic benefits to both countries and will contribute to further improvement of the well-being of the peoples of Belarus and Mongolia.
Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh for the substantive and fruitful dialogue over the course of two days and noted the wealth of information in the negotiations that had taken place. He invited the Mongolian leader to come to Belarus once again in order to get better acquainted with the country and its nature.
“The Mongolian leader’s return visit continues the good tradition of top-level communication that we laid down in June 2024. We have met since then as well, including during events of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. But the current visit will undoubtedly help consolidate a qualitatively new level of relations between the two countries. Despite the geographical distance Belarus and Mongolia are bound by common interests, a peace-loving, balanced, pragmatic course in foreign policy, and long-standing traditions of friendship and cooperation between the peoples,” the Belarus president said.
