MINSK (
BelTA) – The first substantial results have already been achieved for each of the priorities specified by the program on Belarus’ social and economic development in 2026–2030. Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar made the statement during an expanded-participation session of the Minsk City Executive Committee involving delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.
According to Yuri Chebotar, a series of meetings with delegates is taking place all over the country ahead of the third session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress. The meetings present preliminary results of the first year of the current five-year term among other things. Yuri Chebotar recalled that the 2030 Program represents a comprehensive system of documents built around seven priorities, which implementation is designed to secure a new quality of life for the people and a new quality of operation of the economy and enterprises.
The minister noted that human potential development is one of the priorities of this five-year term. “It means the development of healthcare, education, the living environment, and working conditions of our people. It certainly includes the improvement of roads. We’ve agreed that every year we will renew and reconstruct at least 5,000km of roads. The task is being accomplished on the average. The housing program and the transition to building rental housing first and foremost is another avenue. We increase the plans every year. A task has been set to build about 5 million m2 of rental housing, primarily for in-demand specialists. It is being implemented stage by stage as part of oblast programs. In the sphere of education the focus is primarily on specialized secondary education and blue-collar professions. We see how special schools and workshops are being set up at the relevant enterprises. This entire block characterizes the quality of life of the population,” he said.
According to Yuri Chebotar, special emphasis was laid on improving the internal resilience of the economy by mobilizing the available resources. Special loan products with preferential interest rates have been introduced under the umbrella brand Regional Initiative for the sake of realizing priorities of the five-year term: Strong Regions, Technological Self-Sufficiency, Tourism Potential, and New Products. Financing of almost 200 investment projects worth Br1.7 billion was launched in January-September. Conditions have been enabled to support manufacturers, and a mechanism to compensate transport and logistics expenses has been developed for exporters.
Apart from that, the minister recalled that tourism has become another priority. “A new agency is now working. As a regulator it interacts with districts and regions, primarily helping formulate plans for developing tourism potential, including with regard to investment projects. The key indicators of tourism development are the export of tourism services and an increase in the number of accommodation facilities since the potential is limited by the ability of tourists to stay in Belarus for as long as possible. This is why the regions have to increase the number of accommodation facilities: hotels and other places by 30 % over the five-year term,” he said.
“Thus, the realization of priorities of the 2030 Program has already produced the first tangible results. The economy’s focus on accomplishing the tasks of the five-year term in 2027 will ensure a further increase in its quality, including GDP growth, the maintenance of high investment activity dynamics, and the level of population income,” the minister stressed.
